About Me – BACP registered counsellor

About Me

Chris Sharp

Hi, I’m Chris Sharp – a fully-qualified and BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist.

Being a counsellor is much more than a job to me, it’s a vocation. I trained to be a counsellor to refine and polish my natural listening and helping skills. What I learned in my counselling courses was so much more…

I learned how to empathise using my body as well as my mind; I learned theories and models for understanding the human brain and psyche; I experienced others describing their own pain and trauma; and I reflected on my own life and how my own personality was formed.

These experiences helped form skills, knowledge, and techniques that have proven effective at relieving suffering and helping my clients create new meaning in their lives.

But I continue to learn and to develop my skills. I do this through my client work — people always have something to teach me if I pay attention — through private study, and through continued professional development (CPD).

My other key skill is adaptability. I don’t simply apply the same set of techniques to every client I see. Instead, I adapt to each client I meet. Your needs, your difficulties, and your way of communicating is unique and you deserve a unique approach based around you. Find out more about what to expect from counselling.
